A Documentary Film Exploring LGBTQIA+ and Chicano History in Los Angeles
We are thrilled to present Disco De La Raza: A Chicano Story, a documentary film exploring the intersection of LGBTQIA+ and Mexican-American (Chicano) communities in the heart of Los Angeles during the disco era—a niche corner of history that deserves to be celebrated and acknowledged. Director: Paloma Esparza Rabinov. Prudced by Mario J. Novoa
Our film is currently in the production and post-production stages, and has received a Letter of Intent to distribute through the PBS network for a Fall 2027 release.
This story brings to life the struggles and triumphs of a marginalized group that found acceptance, belonging, and self-expression on the dance floor. They created a unique identity and cultural movement that defied traditional Catholic and Latino norms and paved the way for generations to come.
Through personal narratives and archival footage, the documentary offers an intimate glimpse into their unique journeys, celebrating resilience, love, and music. We genuinely believe that this documentary has the potential to make a significant impact by spreading empathy, awareness, tolerance, and acceptance.
